Meet Pinky

From her name to her personality and most importantly her food, everything about Pinky is colorful. Pinky lives just east of the city in the Huai Khwang District of Bangkok, almost directly off of the MRT Subway. Pinky learned to cook under the instruction of her grandmother, and she spent much of her childhood cooking with her and getting to know her way around a kitchen. In addition to cooking for her friends and family, Pinky works as a tour guide and assists those coming to and going from Thailand. When she has free time, you will find Pinky salsa dancing the night away, which is another one of her passions.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-2 guests) Start your culinary trip at the MRT station Haui Khwang. From here, Pinky will be waiting to direct you to your next form of transportation: a motorbike taxi or tuk-tuk, depending on the number of travelers. After a two-minute, exhilarating ride, visitors will find themselves at the front door of one of the most colorful condos in the city. You will take the elevator up to her apartment before finally enjoying your in-home meal. You will enjoy a variety of dishes, with Thai classics such as tom yum goong (spicy prawn soup) or something a bit more unique for your taste buds, like gang liang (spicy vegetable soup).

Cooking experience: (1-2 guests) What Pinky's kitchen lacks in size, she makes up for in her bold-flavored dishes. Pinky cooks each meal one at a time, making it easy for budding chefs to remember and recall directions and recipes long after they leave Pinky's kitchen. After preparing an ample amount of delicious food, you will top off your experience with a sweet, traditional Thai dessert, like fak thawng gang buad (pumpkin in coconut milk sweetened with palm sugar).

Market visit: (1-2 guests) After arriving at the MRT Subway station, you will walk with Pinky to the Huai Khwang market. The first thing that will hit you is the potent smell, as the market is chock full of fresh seafood. The market is small yet packed with Thais purchasing ingredients and food items for the week. Discover regional Thai produce at this local market that is rarely visited by foreigners, and is truly a unique experience.

Notes: Pinky only hosts on Sundays. However, if you're interested in just a meal, she is available to host dinners from Thu-Sun. The experience cost includes the tuk-tuk or motorbike taxi from the MRT station Huai Khwang, a market tour, cooking lesson, and lunch or dinner with a dessert. The entire experience including a market tour and class lasts about five hours.

PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW
A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.

Pinky does a great job at making you feel right at home in her quaint apartment. Once she warmed up, we were chatting non-stop about our favorite types of dancing, the city of Bangkok, and our favorite Thai food (of course). She is passionate about both dancing and food, and she is a very sweet person. She is very knowledgeable about Thai cuisine, so feel free to ask her questions about everything you are making!
