Meet Patricia

Patty and her husband Enrique live in a gorgeous, sprawling ranch-style home in Colina, outside of Santiago in the countryside. Her countryside home is a 45-min Uber drive from central Santiago and costs about 22,000 pesos (~$25) to get to her home. Patty's property boasts fruit and nut trees of every variety (from mandarin to fig, pomegranate to walnut) and a huge vegetable and herb garden. You will be welcomed with open arms and a bottle of Carménere into a house that is both modern and filled with old-world charm. The tall ceilings, gilded paintings, and Victorian furniture are magnificent, but the wood stove, inviting earth-tones, and greenery give the place a feeling of warmth alongside luxury. The kitchen is large and modern, with an island that allows everyone to congregate easily and cook together. The shelves are heaped with the produce collected from Patty’s garden. Patty’s husband has spent much of his professional life traveling for work, as is evident by the display of art pieces from all over the world, from a traditional Austrian Cuckoo clock to stone statues from China. Patty lived in Canada for 20 years and works as a systems analyst.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-12 guests) Gather at Patty’s table to enjoy a sumptuous Chilean meal of traditional favorites. Patty is a skilled cook who loves to entertain. Patty has a reputation at work for hosting the best dinner parties and as soon as anyone at the office finds out that Patty is cooking over the weekend, they try and weasel their way into an invitation in the hopes of tasting her famous pastel de choclo or her husband’s asado! During your meal experience with Patty she will treat you to a menu of seasonal Chilean dishes using produce from her garden. She might serve pastel de choclo (a casserole similar to shepherd’s pie made with corn and chicken), chupe de mariscos (seafood stew) or cazuela (a typical Chilean soup).

Cooking experience: (1-20 guests) Join Patty in the kitchen to learn how to prepare a traditional Chilean meal. Patty can offer you a cooking demonstration or give you a hands-on cooking lesson – just let her know your preference. During your Chilean cooking lesson, she will teach you to make dishes that she and her family grew up eating and love. As you cook together Patty will tell you about the ingredients she uses and about growing up in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother. Learn to make a couple of traditional Chilean dishes before sitting down at the table to enjoy the meal you helped prepare.

Patty and her husband are a delight! They are great conversationalists, Patty is bubbling with energy and enthusiasm, and it was very easy to feel at home with the couple in their inviting home. The food was superb! Patty did a great job of highlighting traditional Chilean cuisine. I felt like I was coming home for a family gathering with good, old-fashioned comfort food. Patty’s enthusiasm for keeping tradition alive while expanding her culinary horizons through travel and international friends makes for an unforgettable evening in the Chilean countryside.

Truly don't think words can describe how much our experience with Patricia and Enrique exceeded all my and my husband’s expectations. This was our first experience using Traveling Spoon so we honestly weren't really sure what to expect. The moment we got to their home, Patricia and Enrique, (and their adorable dog Kai) made us feel like family. It was like hanging out with your super fun and loving cousins all night who you've known for your entire lifetime. Sometimes people just have that quality about them that makes them so instantly warm and comforting to be around—Patricia and Enrique definitely have that quality as extraordinary hosts. Not only did my husband and I learn to cook traditional Chilean dishes, but we also shared equally amazing drink and conversation that together filled our hearts even more than it filled our stomachs. We left grateful, but also sad we couldn’t spend more time with them getting to know them and their culture better. That’s a good problem to have though, haha! We brought back memories of that evening that will stay with us for a lifetime, and we also bought the cookbook some of the recipes we made came out of, so we'll be able to share the recipes with our friends and family. We have Patricia and Enrique to thank for that experience. It's hard to imagine a Traveling Spoon experience ever beating our experience evening, but as first time customers I can confidently say my husband and I will seek out culinary experiences through Traveling Spoon in every country we visit.

What a wonderful evening we had with Patricia and Enrique! The night began with appetizers and conversation, and we immediately connected with this genuine, friendly couple. The girls helped prepare vegetables while Patricia shared stories about life in Chile, making the experience both fun and meaningful. The evening was filled with laughter, great food, and warmth. We truly appreciated Patricia’s flexibility when one of our tours was canceled and we needed to change dates—she communicated so well and made everything easy. Patricia is a fantastic chef and host, and I highly recommend spending an evening with this delightful couple.

Upon arriving in Santiago, Chile for the first time, my hope was to spend quality time with people who lived in and around this vibrant city. My evening with Patricia (Patty) and Enrique in Lampa made me feel like I was not brand-new to Chile but had already settled in and made friends. Such a lovely couple, and what fun I had making seafood pie and learning that the best Chilean meals start with one, perfect avocado and are awash with wine and laughter. The gorgeous crepe with strawberry marmalade that Patty made ended one of my most favorite evenings while staying in this country.
