Authentic Countryside Puerto Rican Cooking Class

Rafi was a gracious host. We enjoyed learning how to prepare authentic Puerto Rican food in gorgeous surroundings. Highly recommend this experience.

The culinary experience was exactly as described, only better! Our host Layla invited us into her scenic home, shared much knowledge of her plantings, and taught us about traditional cuisine. It was a great ‘hands on’ experience.

My wife and I always find a cooking class when we travel and this one ranks right at the top. Lela is amazingly friendly and easy to talk to. She runs the class from her B and B which is gorgeous with spectacular views. The class is in a home setting, which makes it feel intimate and authentic -- it feels like cooking with a friend. A fantastic experience and highly recommended.

This as the best experience we had on our trip to Puerto Rico! The hosts were very welcoming and wonderful people! Neither of us wanted to leave! The fresh ingredients some from their home made the meal delicious. The view of the mountains and the sea while you enjoy a drink and some food adds to the beautiful experience! The next time I am in Puerto Rico I will absolutely be coming back to visit them! I would recommend this experience without hesitation!

If you're tired of beaches, snorkeling, walking tours in PR and are looking for something unique to do: this is a fabulous afternoon's trip. Rafi and Lela are a wonderful couple, willing to share their kitchen, and give you a hands on 'cook PR style' session. All supplies are provided, you just have to bring hands and a willing spirit. The meal laid out for us was a simple enough affair - rice, sausages, spices, herbs. And would be suitable for even the most cook-out-of-a-box cook. If you're a bit more advanced, then they can tell you all about the ingredients used, some history, even show you the herbs / vegetables grown in their garden. While Lela is the 'primary cook', and a great teacher - Rafi is more than capable, stepping up to teach 'the round plantain disks' which have a Puerto Rican name I cannot remember. The two complement each other very well. Good wine, and good conversation are also provided, along with some delicious ice-cream dessert and a laze on the deck overlooking the rain forest. Rafi went overboard - supplying us with some cuttings of herbs, to grow back home, and explanations of the ingredients so we can re-create the meal in our own kitchen. The wife and I had a wonderful time, and would highly recommend Lela and Rafi's Cooking Class to anyone who would like something a bit more.. out of the ordinary.

Rafi and Lela have a beautiful property in Cayey. It was easy to get to from San Juan with car, although be away the drive up the mountain is quite twisty if you get car sick. It was also about 10 degrees cooler there which we fully appreciated. The view was amazing and the company couldn’t have been better. We cooled relatively simple dishes and got the recipes after so I feel confident we can try to replicate them once we get home. Rafi told us all about the plants in his yard and we loved learning more about Puerto Rico. Highly recommend if you have the time.

By far one of the best and most memorable traveling experience we have had in a very long time. We visit PR often and do enjoy the local food. This time we wanted to learn how to make some traditional dishes. Rafi and Lela are wonderful people. They made us feel very welcome from the start. From learning about herbs and spices growing on their back yard to preparing the meal, everything was great. To make this experience even more wonderful, their property is so beautiful and the views are amazing. These memories will stay with us for a very long time. Before our flight home, we stopped by a grocery store to pick up few ingredients to make similar dishes at home for you extended family.

My wife and kids came with us to this experience and we really enjoyed it. The host was great and had good communication the morning we were visiting. The property was very nice with great views, and the thought and preparation that went in to the cooking was fantastic. We made a great meal and the kids easily participated. They gave us a nice tour of the agricultural after our meal as well. 5/5 would recommend.

This made for such an amazing time!! The hosts are just wonderful kind people, and they made us comfortable and welcome! We chatted, had a cocktail and cook together. They had bite sized food to taste as we cooked, and it ended with this nice meal. It really was wonderful! Now the place... the space and the view, absolutely perfect for this event! Not if, but when I'm back, I will absolutely delighted to bring other guests to have this experience!!!

Leila and Rafi provided the classes in their mountain top home. For my daughter and me, they provided a context to the food we were eating, Puerto Rican history and culture at the same time that we experienced practical cooking tips and techniques. Neither of us wanted to leave! Beautiful setting, lovely people and well organized class.

This experience is true Puertorican warmth. The experience was super fun and unique, the location has breathtaking views of the mountains. Lela and Rafi are a delight as hosts, is an understatement to say the food was delicious. Would 1000% recommend!

Meeting Rafi and Lela in their home was amazing, especially when the rain cleared. Then we could see across several mountaintops from their sunroof and go into the yard to see thier herbs and seasonings they are growing themselves for their meals. They were incredibly kind and gracious for our outing. We have always wanted to do a cooking outing g on a vacation and this one was remarkable.

Rafi and Lela are AMAZING!!! They greeted us the moment we pulled up and it was so easy to connect with them. The dishes we prepared were delicious and fun to make. I can’t recommend this class enough! Perfect for couples who want to learn more about Puerto Rican cuisine in a comfortable, inviting environment. Rafi and Lela will make you feel like family.
